Raku

I used tongs to remove these red hot (1800°) pots from a kiln and plunged them into a bucket of combustibles that lit on fire. The colors are an interaction of chemicals in the combustibles and glaze; oxygen; and finally, reduction when the fire uses up the oxygen. This process can cause cracks and fissures that are part of the design. Raku pieces are purely decorative. They do not hold water and are not food safe.
