Firing to increasingly higher temperatures was the advance that made pottery so durable that it was an everyday part of life. Stoneware is tough and demands to be used every day. It is food and dishwasher safe and can be used to heat food in the microwave or oven. Mugs kept in the freezer are perfect to keep drinks cold.
